Ghanaian highlife musician, Kwabena Kwabena, has expressed his disinterest in award schemes, citing controversies, inconsistencies, and rivalry amongst artistes as reasons.

In an interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, Kwabena Kwabena expressed his desire for a more structured and unified approach to recognising artistic achievements.

“I wish it can be structured in a way that even when you are nominated, you will feel good,” he said while acknowledging the value of recognition for one’s work.

Kwabena Kwabena lamented the personalisation of awards, often leading to confrontations and disputes amongst artistes.

He referenced past instances of on-stage conflicts, stating that they “take away the beauty of entertainment and the joy of the ceremony.”

The Aso hitmaker said he preferred an award scheme that celebrates unity and mutual appreciation among artists.

He suggested that a more collaborative approach would make award schemes more appealing to him.

Kwabena Kwabena expressed his enthusiasm for the entertainment aspect of award ceremonies, where he can perform and celebrate music instead of rivalry.

That notwithstanding he said he was ready to perform any task that is related to his craft on platforms created by the organisers of the award schemes.

Kwabena Kwabena performed at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards held on June 1, 2024 while he paid tribute to legendary highlife musician Amakye Dede, the Lifetime Achievement Award receipient.

In the meantime, Kwabena has released a new song titled ‘Fakye Me’, a single taken off a 5-track gospel EP he is preparing to release later in the year.
