To Cindy Ama Thompson who has three albums to her credit her success has been a result of prayer, hardwork and focus.

Cindy who has been quiet for sometime now, says she is seriously working on her fourth album and God willing, would be out latest by the end of the year.

The music talent of Cindy, aged 34, showed up when she was eight years and was a member of Mount Olivet Methodist Church Sunday School Choir, then orgnaised by the late Mama Abossey.

Cindy’s talent of composing songs however started before she got to the age of eight years. As a reserved person, she used to compose songs and sing all day long to console herself.

Her parents, Mr. Thomp-son Kwesi Adobah and Madam Mary Turkson, both natives of Krofu near Mankessim in the Central Region but who are resident in Accra later took her to their church, the MDCC, also at Dansoman. There she joined the church choir and was later sent to the national choir of the church. She was an alto singer who used to sing solo when the choir performed at functions, church choir competitions and at church services.

Destined for the music Gospel Ministry Cindy accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Saviour and Lord at the Macedonia Prayer Camp of the Church of Pentecost at Ablekuma, a suburb of Accra in 1992 where she had taken her elder sister who was sick to be prayed for.

Cindy’s sick sister Augustina Aba Thompson ironically made her vow before dying, that she will not attend MDCC anymore but attend the Church of Pentecost.

According to Cindy, though she was young and did not understand the vow she made, after her sister’s death, she strangely felt she’s been drawn to the Church of Pentecost. She therefore obeyed the calling of God to the church and has since 1993 not made a turning back.

Upon joining the Church of Pentecost, she decided not to sing because, she somehow believed that, her sister died because she sang. However, her decision was overthrown by the Holy Spirit, as one day she had a strange urge to sing at church and was not disobedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Her performance made the choir leaders call her to join the church choir, eventually leading her to sing for the national choir of the Church of Pentecost – Pentecost Singers.

In 1996, thus after two years in the choir, Cindy started working on a personal album.

By February 1998, she had finished the album. When she gave it to her producer, Elder Awortwi-Tandoh, he told her it was not her personal album, it was only Cindy sings for church album. The reason her producer gave was that, the album was mostly a compilation of church songs or what is called popular songs.

Through the encouragement of her producer, that she writes her own songs, Cindy fasted and prayed for God’s guidance and her prayers were answered.

By early 1998 she had completed the “Demo” for her first album — Onokwafo Nyame.

Elder Awortwi-Tandoh’s efforts at getting a producer for the album failed so he finally decided to produce it himself. The album was finally launched in June 1998 at the Kaneshie Central Assembly of the Church of Pentecost.

Shortly after launching her first album, Cindy begun preparing for her second album- Cindy’s Messiah which was released in August 2000 and won her the seven awards mentioned above.

Cindy’s third album-Calvary Nyankunpon was born out of struggle. According to her, she really struggled with all forms of spiritual powers on her bid to come out with this album and she is grateful to God and Elder Awortwi for his support which made her break through. Adding, “I dare not say that the struggle is over, because it is clear that the forces of darkness are doing all they can to suppress the album.”
