Phillip Yaw Atiemo, popularly known as Lil Shaker is a hip hop artiste who is fast rising with his ‘pidgin’ style of rap. He was born to Eugene Atiemo and Jasmine Ameko, a chemical engineer and graphics/set designer respectively.

Embodying a diehard rap dream, Lil Shaker has pulled himself by the bootstraps as a bystander into a frontrunner in GH rap.

Ironically, Shaker’s name has nothing to do with his music game. He was christened Lil Shaker for breaking ankles on the basketball court way back in school but is now known for breaking beats on the mic and the console as well.

Whiles in school at Accra High he formed his own set “Graveyard” and made baby steps to a legit career rapping over beats of hip hop majors like Nas, Ja Rule and others.

With strong affiliation to the Skillions after his High School education, Shaker began releasing singles and featuring on mixtapes and singles, creating a buzz for himself within the corridors of underground rap scene.

The diehard pidgin rapper formed a group named Mic Wreckers in mid-2002 with Joey B, Killmatic, Graphic and Kelvin Beat as part of its members. The group recorded a mixtape and had already begun promoting some of the singles on the tape when the fortunes of the tape changed.

The quality of work on the tape merited their induction into the Skillions. The name of the group was changed to the “New Generation Skillions” with the inclusion of new upcoming acts Gemini. The tape became the “New Generation Skillions Mixtape’. Some of the very popular songs of the mixtape included “I No Dey Biz”, “School”, “Ghallywood”, ‘Ede Pain Me” and “Facebook Girl”.

During his days with Skillions Records, Shaker continued producing beats and worked on songs for names like Kweku T, D-Black, Kwaw Kesse and other big shots.

After the breaking up of the group, Shaker went solo and has released singles like “Den Tymz” and “Amen”.

The vibrant Shaker released his debut album in December 2015 after signing on to the BBnZ Record label.

Prior to that, a few singles off the album were released including “Handkerchief” (which featured label mate Kojo Cue), “Kotodwe”, “Madakraa” (which featured EL and Joey B) and “Yellow Sisi” with Pappy Kojo.

All the songs continue to make waves on the radio.
